This morning we had to be ON THE BUS by 6 am. Bags needed to be outside of our hotel rooms by 5:15 and breakfast was waiting for us in the lobby at 5:15. Ugh. Keeping deer hunting hours on vacation was not what I was expecting.
Everyone was actually in the lobby on time and we left at 5:58. Our tour guide for the next week was Jelle (pronounced Yell-a rather than Jelly as we were joking that it was). Jelle said that he would talk for a little bit and then be quiet for most of the day so that we could get some sleep. I immediately like Jelle.
We had a 2 1/2 hour drive to Dover where we caught the ferry across the English Channel to Calais. The white cliffs of Dover were barely visable through the heavy fog. Unfortunately today was the start of the week of rain and fog that followed us along our tour.
The ferry process was interesting. We had to be there at least an hour before our trip scheduled for 10 am. Despite being there an hour and a half before, we actually only had a short break to grab some breakfast and coffee before they started boarding.
Once in Calais we boarded a new bus and met our driver for the week - Mossimo. Our driver in London was Mario. I think that all tour bus drivers are Italian in Europe.
After a few more hours on the bus we stopped at Vimy Ridge to admire the monument there.
After a few more short hours on the bus we (finally) arrived in Paris. We had a quick check in at the hotel and were back on the bus for a sightseeing tour an dinner right on the Champs-Elysees. It was beautiful.
After dinner we took a cruise on the Seine. Mark and I grabbed a demi of champagne to enjoy with the ride :)
After our cruise off to bed to get some sleep for a big day tomorrow :)
